So Light and So Colorful

Today, there is not much to do.Aujourd'hui, il n'y a pas grand chose à faire.
Today, it is rainy. Aujourd'hui il pleut.
Smith is sitting in his hole, thinking.Smith est assis dans son terrier, il pense.
Smith is a rabbit.Smith est un lapin.

Smith is a rabbit, and he is bored. Smith est un lapin, et il s'ennuie.
As there is not much to do, Smith feels dull and drowsy. Comme il n'y a pas grand chose à faire, Smith somnole et rêvasse.
He is listening to the rain falling heavily on the ground upside, and remembers. Il écoute la pluie qui tombe dehors, et se souvient.
He used to have a friend who loved rain. Jadis il avait un ami qui adorait la pluie.
Patrick was his name.   Il s'appelait Patrick.
He was quite a funny fellow, Smith thinks. C'était un drôle de personnage, pense Smith.
Platypus, I think human creatures called him a Platypus. Un ornithorynque, je crois que les animaux humains l'appelaient un ornithorynque.
Anyway, he was something halfway between a drake and a marmot, and he loved rain. En bref, il était quelque part entre le canard et la marmotte, et il adorait la pluie.
His fur was waterproof, so that he could enjoy all the advantages of rain without suffering of any disagreement. Sa fourrure était imperméable, de telle sorte qu'il pouvait profiter de tous les avantages de la pluie sans souffrir de ses désagrément.
Even though Smith could hardly find any advantages about rain. Même si Smith voyait difficilement quels avantages on pouvait trouver à la pluie.
“Maybe that’s why he metamorphosed. He was getting bored of rain and water,” mumbles Smith in a sleepy voice. "Peut-être que c'est pour ça qu'il s'est transformé. Il en avait assez de l'eau et de la pluie." marmonna Smith d'une voix ensommeillée.
The rabbit tries to remember that odd afternoon, when it happened. Le lapin essaye de se rappeler de cet étrange après-midi, où c'est arrivé.
Patrick looked so sad that day. Patrick avait l'air si triste ce jour là.
It had been raining in the morning, but the weather was sunny at this point and there was a beautiful rainbow in the sky. Il avait plut dans la matinée, mais le temps était ensoleillé à cet instant et il y avait un magnifique arc-en-ciel.
Patrick was just sitting on his bulky bottom near his pool, and staring at this rainbow in the sky. Patrick était juste là, assis sur son énorme derrière près de sa marre, fixant l'arc-en-ciel.
“That’s so beautiful” he said. "C'est tellement beau" dit-il.

“Indeed Dearie!” answered the rabbit. “So why is it that you look so sad?” "En effet mon ami!" répondit le lapin. "Alors pourquoi as-tu l'air si triste?"

“I wish I could be like that…” "J'aimerais tellement être comme ça..."
“Like what, the sky?” wondered Smith."Comme quoi, le ciel?" s'étonna Smith.
“Like this rainbow…So light and so colourful…”"Comme c'est arc-en-ciel...Si lumineux et si coloré..."
Patrick the Platypus was speaking with such a melancholic voice that Smith the Rabbit thought he had to do something. Patrick l'Ornithorynque parlait avait une voix si malheureuse que Smith le Lapin pensa qu'il devait faire quelque chose.
“Well…I know someone who may help you. He lives in the forest, just like me. It is the most beautiful creature of these lands, sure he can teach you!” "Eh bien...Je connais quelqu'un qui pourrait peut-être t'aider. Il vit dans la forêt, comme moi. C'est la plus belle créature de ces bois, je suis sûr qu'il peut t'apprendre!"
“Really? What’s his name?” "Vraiment? comment il s'appelle?"
“Corky. Corky the Unicorn.” "Corky. Corky la Licorne."
And so they went to see the unicorn. Et ils se mirent donc en route pour aller voir la licorne.
It was indeed a beautiful creature, with his carmine coat, his crimson mane, and his ruby horn and hooves. C'était en effet une créature magnifique, avec sa robe carmin, sa crinière incarnat, et sa corne et ses sabots de rubis.
“What is it that you want, Platypus” the unicorn asked in a deep voice."Que désires-tu, Ornithorynque" demanda la licorne d'une voix profonde.
“My friend told me that you can teach me how to be just as beautiful as a rainbow.”"Mon ami m'a dit que vous pouviez m'apprendre à être aussi beau qu'un arc-en-ciel."
“Silly creatures, Beauty is no teachable thing” retorted the unicorn."Stupides créatures, la Beauté ne s'apprend pas" rétorqua la licorne.
Patrick was so disarmed that he almost started to cry.  Patrick fut si désarmé qu'il failli pleurer.
“Oh wait…I know who can help you. You should go and see Jeronimus.”"Attend, attend...Je connais quelqu'un qui peut t'aider. Tu devrais aller voir Jeronimus."
“Jeronimus?” wondered the Platypus. "Jéronimus?" demanda l'Ornithorynque.
“Yes, Jeronimus of course. The Great Dragon, Lord of these lands.”"Oui, Jeronimus bien spur. Le Grand Dragon, Seigneur de ces terres."
“I thought it was the Stag who was the Lord,” startled Smith."Je pensais que c'était le Cerf qui était Seigneur,"s'étonna Smith.
“Jeronimus is far wiser than Stan the Stag. Stan is only our captain. Jeronimus is the real Lord.” "Jéronimus est bien plus sage que Stan le Cerf. Stan n'est que notre commandant. Jeronimus est le vrai Seigneur."
And so they went to see Jeronimus the Dragon Lord.  Et ils se mirent donc en route pour aller voir le Seigneur Dragon.

Jeronimus was not as beautiful as Corky the Unicorn.Jeronimus n'était pas aussi magnifique que Corky la Licorne.
He was not as scarlet. Il n'était pas aussi rouge.
As a matter of fact, he was white. Jeronimus the Dragon was as white as he was wise.A vrai dire, il était blanc. Jeronimus le Dragon était aussi blanc qu'il était sage.
Smith and Patrick had to screwed up their eyes to look at him. Smith et Patrick devait plisser les yeux pour pouvoir le regarder.
“What is it that you want, Platypus?” asked Jeronimus in the deepest voice on earth."Que désires tu, Ornithorynque?" demanda Jeronimus de la plus profonde voix au monde.
And so Patrick repeated : “I want to be as beautiful as a rainbow.”Une fois de plus Patrick répéta :"Je veux être aussi beau qu'un arc-en-ciel."
“Why do you think a rainbow is beautiful?”"Pourquoi trouves-tu que les arc-en-ciel sont beau?"
“It is so light and so colorful, whereas I’m just grey and plump,’ answered Patrick, lowering his head in grief."C'est si lumineux et si coloré, alors que je suis juste gris et gros..." répondit Patrick, baissant la tête de chagrin.
Jeronimus had a deep sight and seemed to consider.Jéronimus eut un profond soupir et sembla réfléchir.
“Well, then, if you find yourself plump and grey…Let your wish be fulfilled!”"Eh bien, puisque tu te trouve gros et gris...Que ton vœux soit exaucé!"
Suddenly, the whiteness of Jeronimus seemed to fill the air.Soudain, l'éclat de Jéronimus sembla emplir l'atmosphère.
For a moment, all was white : trees, flowers, wind, sun and smells.Pendant un instant, tout fut blanc : les arbres, les fleurs, le vent, le soleil et les odeurs.
When Smith was able to see again, Patrick had disappeared.Quand Smith put voir de nouveau, Patrick avait disparu.
Even better than that, he had changed. Plus que disparu, il s'était métamorphosé.
Patrick the Platypus had eventually metamorphosed into a dragonfly.Patrick l'Ornithorynque s'était finalement transformé en libellule.
So light and so colorful. Si lumineuse et si colorée.

C'est trop mignooooooon ^^
en plus j'adore les ornithorynques!

Corky and Patrick had to screwed up their eyes to look at him. => tiens, Corky est venu avec eux ? ^^ Faudrait mettre "the three of them went to see" pour que ce soit clair je pense. Sinon, mode classique du conte, moi je pense que c'est toujours les deux mêmes

Let’s your wish be fulfilled => Let your wish / Let's fulfill

Suddenly, the whiteness of Jeronimus seams to fill the air => seemed ?

I really enjoyed reading it.
Be carefull, though, since comas in English are used differently (and far less often) than in French. I think you wrote it with a French tone in mind and it's understandable for us but that's not a typical English rythm.

But you've come up with a very good story !

Pour light, je l'ai choisis à la fois parce qu'il évoque la lumière, mais surtout parce qu'il peut vouloir dire léger, (je ne me trompe pas sur ce point au moins?) alors que Patrick est "plump"

En effet, "light" veut aussi dire léger. Du coup, c'était aussi par rapport à ta trad' que je disais ça, mais c'est vrai que c'est un double sens difficile à faire passer. Donc ok
